INITIAL NEA IDEA

Director: Emily Olsen

Actors: Emily Olsen (Girl), Samuel Mycroft (Boy), Abbie Olsen (Mother)

Editing Software: Adobe After Effects 2017

Song: Ignite - Alan Walker

Girl is seen to have a bad background, struggling with family life as a growing teenager with an unsuitable mother. We never see any friends or any other family members.

Boy has no set or seen back ground, homelessness is unreasonable but there is also no real backstory for him. Regardless, he is an urban explorer, leaving his symbolic mark wherever he has been.

Narrative:
Boy is an urban explorer, using his surroundings to fill his desire to adventure. On his expeditions, he leaves a symbol to mark his presence. Girl is a troubled teenager needing an escape from her home life and amidst an argument with her mother, she runs off to wherever and finds a symbol Boy left. This inspires her to do what he does and after finding more of them she makes her own symbol of alter-ego of his. Toward the end of the song, he finds her symbol where he as about to leave one, and he’s like oh shit this is cool. Boy and Girl never meets officially, but it is cool because of the metaphorical side of things (see below) and the fact that she beat him to a spot.

Camera shots:
-          Movement
-          Angles
-          Shots
-          Distances

Editing – Research how to adapt cinematics and fireflies

2 settings +
-          Crevice
-          Whistle Way
-          Field shots?
-          Sunsets/rises

2 characters, two social backgrounds etc etcccccccccccc

Initial shot ideas:
Boy
Girl
-          Spray painting symbol onto walls, rocks, or caves.
-          Leaving house in anger due to treatment after coming home
-          Walking the streets, perhaps waving to someone he knows?
-          Running a lot lol rip me
-          Sunsets spent with a spray can and a backpack
-          Finding many of Boy’s symbols
-          Cool setting cinematics
-          Making her own symbol
-          Finding her symbol and being like omg  wHO
-          Finding somewhere to place her symbol

-          Goes back home at the end and her mum doesn’t bother her anymore.

Symbolically, Boy is Girl, except she is finding herself and this argument between her and her mum caused her to run away, find these symbols and find herself in the process. Finding herself is the creation of her own symbol, and exploring to find a place to put it is her looking for who she really is. Once she has found this and marked her existence, she’s happy with going back home and not needing to bother over her mother, who is still angry about whatever.

Social Groups:

Sam:
-          Clothes -> Parkour-style outfit? Baggy pants, grey t-shirt, backpack
-          Hairstyle -> Long curly hair
-          Accessories -> Face mask????
-          Equipment -> Plastic symbol template, black spray paint

Emily:
-          Clothes -> Everyday teenager outfit, jeans, t-shirt, trainers etc
-          Hairstyle -> Short hair
-          Accessories -> Symbolic bracelet maybe, idk tbh
-          Equipment -> Cardboard symbol template, and either black or white spray paint

·       -   We don’t see him creating his own symbol but after she finds a few of his, she goes back home and makes her own.
·       -   (2) The boy is a neutral figure who is always seen alone. At the beginning he’s seen to be spraying his mark, but she then finds the same one later in the video.
·        -  Intro A: We see Girl and Mother arguing and Girl walks out on her, and then the music stars.
·         - Intro B: music starts, logo or title fades out into a dark shot of Boy going into a cave or something similar. WANT – Edited fireflie. Wide angle.

Intro B and (2) are in the same location but while Boy is surrounded by enchanting visuals, it’s very silent to her.
