STATEMENT OF INTENT

MUSIC VIDEO

For my music video, I plan to use particular media techniques to create a music video which will have an implied meaning of finding oneself, which is quite fitting for a 16-25-year old modern-day society where ideologies of self-expression are popular and matter to this demographic. This theme, regardless of narrative, is being used to appeal to the target demographic of a fun-loving class to reflect Sony music’s targeted customers.

The actors, despite being a huge part of the narrative, their design will reflect the average 16-25-year-old who this song appeals to. Actor 1, male and 17, will be wearing a simple jumper with the iconic Neslo logo on the front, with black jeans and sneaker shoes. The jumper is to make him seem more like a figment of imagination rather than a solid person and to directly speak to fans. For the girl, she will be wearing a simple, everyday outfit, of black jeans and a hoodie with a grey jacket in other shots to symbolize a repetitive day to day life. The outfit will be made to look like she took time into picking her outfit, but something simple and made to be without judgment, hence the trending colour schemes.

The whole concept for my music video is all about finding oneself. I represent this through the girl’s point of view, which is both personal to her but also universal and relatable to viewers. I create personal imagery (which some viewers can relate to also) by including difficult home life, and struggling at school. Regardless, the universal idea of this character is that she finds something she loves, creates her own reflection of that, and therefore becomes this person she didn't know she wanted to be. I will be representing this in multiple ways throughout the video, with a range of shots and scenes implying ways she finds herself, which includes creating her mark, leaving it places, and ending it with her happiness, the opposite of her representation in the beginning. The boy plays a massive part in her journey since on the way home from school, having had a bad start to the day, she finds one of the boy's stickers (the logo) on a lamppost. This is a reflection of "everything happens for a reason". These marks are shown in many other locations at fast-paced editing, and this allows the girl almost enlightenment, showing her that she is able to become herself by doing this for her own. At the very end of the music video, the pair will connect over the symbols, which produces a harmonious happy ending with both characters meeting and sitting beside each other with their symbols between them, the only thing separating yet also bringing them together.

Editing shall be to the beat of the music, echoing Goodwin’s music conventions. I shall use cross-cutting, a range of different shots, including over the shoulder and worm’s eye. Some of the lyrics will be reflected in the narrative. Using high key lighting alongside natural filters to highlight the pop aesthetic the brief demands, the narrative will heavily reflect character importance, which is another factor in implying how important oneself is. With both genders depicting male-female social groups, the message I’ll be putting across will be universal, showing that, since one character already found his important, you as the viewer can too. Also, I will be challenging stereotypes by creating the girl to have a “bad girl” edge to her, using spray paints and rolling sleeves to give a masculine tone, while the boy will challenge stereotypes by having long hair for a man, which reaches an ethereal look for him.

WEBSITE

The website, which is solely around our artist will heavily reflect the typical pop website convention. This includes an “home” section on our artist, a recent picture of their newest album, a picture of them, and a menu bar, which my target audience will simply know how to use. To give the realistic effect of a website, the menu bar will have the home page and the single page. In home will be the artist, discography and an mp3 version of their newest single. The single page will have their newest single and the MV of such, and the behind the scenes video on it.

The aesthetic of my website will be made mostly of a range of pinks, highlighted with black and white/grey texts. This is important to note as the colour pink is mainstream in current society my target audience falls into, and the other colours are bringing out the shades of them. Furthermore, the images will be personal to the artist to bring the relationship between artist and audience closer. The other images, such as the main one on home, is to give it a pop-y feel, which ties all of the aesthetic together and to make it perfect.

Lastly, my alternative audio-visual content will be a Q&A, which will be Sony asking Neslo, the artist, about their newest single Shine, in which they will answer questions from "fans". I think this is a really good idea since it gives the audience an insight into what the music video was about and the idea of its ego. I will also be making a behind the scenes video to create a connection between audience and artist and let the audience feel as though they have a special pass as fans to hear what happens behind the scenes.

LINKS

There will be multiple links between the music video and the website to create a synergy between my artist but to also keep audiences interested.

First and most obviously, the logo. The logo will be reflected heavily reflected in both places to give the audience a stable representation of the artist, something recognisable but simple to give them recognition and possibly a fan-base.
